Give Thanks
Today is Thanksgiving and so many of us name a list of things we are thankful for similar to this one:
- Warm house
- Family
- Friends
- Morning coffee
- Food
- Church
- Job
- Car
- And on and on
But what about all the people in the world that don't have all of those things?
What if we don't have all those things?
What then do we have to be thankful for?
People who have everything, people who have nothing, who suffer, who have only one or not even one of the things from the list above, all have SO much to be thankful for!
We ALL have a God whom created and continually chooses and loves us!
A God who suffers a long with us.
A God who sent His one and only son to show us how to live, love, serve, and commune.
A God who sent His only son to suffer and die for the sake of OUR redemption and the redemption of the world.
"for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who give me strength."
-Philippians 4:11-13
Whether we have "nothing" or "everything" we always have the only thing that really counts: The strength and love of God through which he sent Jesus to live and die for us.
Now THAT is something to be thankful for.
Don't get me wrong, we need to be thankful for the many other blessings God has given us but we need not forget that even if we do not have all those things we still have an amazing creator and savior to be thankful for.
And lastly I would like to leave you with these words from Romans 5:6-8 and 2 Chronicles 5:13; "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
"The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang; 'He is good; his love endures forever.'"
